Jon Bernthal first appeared as the gritty Punisher in the original Daredevil series in 2016.
With the approval and love for his character, his own spin-off series, The Punisher, kickstarted in 2017 with two seasons.
However, although he embraced the role nearly ten years ago, he wasn’t always thrilled with the idea.

Initially, he turned down returning as Frank Castle because of how Daredevil: Born Again wanted to portray the character.
“Ultimately, I didn’t see it,” he admitted to Entertainment Weekly.
“I didn’t see the version of Frank, and what they wanted from Frank [didn’t] really make sense to me and I thought would not appeal to the fans and wouldn’t be congruent.”
The first blueprint for the sequel series was more of a legal procedural show than the street-crime, dark alley series we have now.
“It was not something I was really interested in doing.”
“So we had to walk away.”

Frank Castle returned in Episode 4 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ as Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock tried hunting down the killer of his client, Hector Ayala, who was just found not guilty of murder.
Once the two meet again, they exchange words, both struggling with where they are now in life and their altered lives.
So far, the series has had positive reviews from fans.
“Episodes 5 & 6 gave me everything that I wanted from this show,” one wrote.
“Clever connectivity to the MCU, greatly choreographed fights, DAREDEVIL VS MUSE, and set up so much for the show and the MCU in general.”
“I still can’t believe some critics didn’t like this show,” another said.
“It’s quite literally up there with Netflix’s Daredevil.”
