British actress Keira Knightley says she needed ‘chest painted’ for Pirates of the Caribbean movie

Keira Knightley, known for her role as Elizabeth Swan in “Pirates of The Caribbean” franchise alongside Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, has often spoken out about her filming experiences.

Knightley, who was just 17 years old when she starred in the first Disney Pirates movie, The Curse of The Black Pearl, has shared many details of her time on set.

Being scrutinised over her appearance and weight led to her being diagnosed with PTSD at the age of 22.

As she is not as well endowed as some in the industry, Knightley revealed that a lot of work went into providing her “Pirates” character with the cleavage that was expected of her.

In an interview in 2005, she told American talk show host Conan that she had one small thing to complain about whilst preparing to be the beloved Elizabeth Swan.

She explained that she thought it was “good fun” filming two sequels back to back.

However, she shared that she was still left “a bit disappointed.”

“In the first one (Curse of the Black Pearl), I got my cleavage painted every day.”

Knightley’s character was well known for wearing extremely tight corsets, which were a staple in the 18th century to perk up the bosoms.

“I had a very nice lady who came and for 45 minutes every morning painted me a cleavage.”

Conon questioned, “Does that work? It makes things look fuller?”

Knightley replied, “Yeah, it’s very clever, it’s shading and everything, and I mean, it’s a help from a corset.”

“Because they pull you in and put it all up,” she said as she imitated her breasts being hoisted.

The Bend it Like Beckham star admitted that she loved wearing the corsets, “they make you stand up very straight,” she told Conan.

She admitted that she had a Scarlett O’Hara fetish and managed to get her waist down to a very slim 18 inches in the first movie.

“It was fanstastic for about 5 minutes then you realise you couldn’t breathe, oxygen deprivation isn’t a good thing.”
