Marvel’s long-awaited X-Men reboot is finally moving forward, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has shared what fans can expect from the film.
The upcoming MCU movie is set to introduce a younger cast and a storyline geared toward a new generation of fans.
Feige recently confirmed that the project is still in the early stages and probably won’t hit theatres until sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set for December 2027.

In an interview with Nerdist, Feige called the reboot “very youth-oriented” and spoke highly of Jake Schreier, who was just announced as the film’s director.
“We had a great experience with [Schreier] on Thunderbolts,” Feige said.
He added, “He has his pulse on a younger demographic… That was important for Thunderbolts, but it’s even more important for X-Men, because X-Men, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.”
The script is currently being developed by Michael Lesslie, who recently worked on The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Schreier, who also directed The New Avengers, will helm the reboot.
In a separate interview with ThePlaylist, Schreier hinted that the new version will stand apart from Fox’s earlier take on the franchise, including the younger-skewing First Class series.
“Yeah, I think that’s fair to say,” he replied when asked if the reboot would feel distinct.

“There’s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know… but to be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material, that’s like a very rare and fortunate opportunity.”
It’s been six years since the release of Dark Phoenix, the last X-Men film under Fox, and Marvel is taking its time with the new version.
However, fans might get an early taste during Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumoured to include multiverse crossovers that could allow new X-Men characters to appear before their standalone debut.
In the meantime, Avengers: Doomsday is set to reunite several original X-Men stars from the Fox era, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen and James Marsden.
Hugh Jackman is also expected to return as Wolverine, following the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
