Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has opened up about her final moments with Liam Payne and the last message she sent before his tragic death.
The former One Direction star tragically died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A report later confirmed that Liam had alcohol, cocaine, and antidepressants in his system. Three people have been charged so far with manslaughter in connection with his tragic death, and two others may face drug-related charges.
Now, Kate has opened up about regretting her decision to leave Liam in Argentina and return home to Florida ahead of him.
In an interview with The Sun, she explained that she only left early to take care of their rescue dog, Nala—not because of any falling out between them.
While Liam had struggled with mental health and substance abuse over the years, Kate said he seemed to be in a good place when she last saw him at the hotel.
She reflected, “We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive. And I just can’t even believe the way things truly ended.”
“Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out in the end. Obviously, if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”
She described the “tragic accident” as something she never could have imagined.
She added, “No, I never thought [he might die young]. But, you know, we did have our own separate lives—this wasn’t the first time we had traveled apart.”
Kate, who had been with Liam since 2022 and described him as “humble” and “charming,” admitted she’s still struggling to process everything.
“It still doesn’t feel real to me that he’s gone. I’m trying to do my best, but my life has changed so much,” she told the newspaper. “I think about Liam every second of every day.”
She shared that she still calls his phone just to hear his voicemail. The last message she sent him was, “I can’t wait for you to get home and see the house,” after decorating their home for Halloween.
Following Liam’s death, Kate posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing her grief and asking for privacy from fans.
She wrote, “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss.”
“Nothing about the past few days have felt real.”
“I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
