Singer Boy George regrets nasty comment he directly left to Liam Payne days before death

PublishedLast updated

“Karma Chameleon” singer Boy George has had his own fair share of controversies over the years, including being arrested for drug possession and making false reports.

He’s never one to shy away from discussing his opinions about other people and is well-known for being quite opinionated.

The once-popular singer, who rose to fame in the 1980s with his band Culture Club, took to a recent podcast to discuss former One Direction star Liam Payne, who sadly passed away in October.

Speaking on the “High Performance” Podcast with Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes, George admitted he regrets some of the things he commented directly to Liam Payne under the late singer’s social media posts.

“In the case of Liam Payne, I watched him a few days before it happened,” he began to explain.

“I remember watching online, and I’d actually put a message under a post saying,” he said.

“‘He’s off his nut,’ which wasn’t very nice but I felt it. I felt like he was out of control,” he added.

Referring to Payne’s sudden passing he said he couldn’t “take it in,”

“When it happened, it just hit me.”

“The same way that Amy Winehouse hit me,” he continued.

“Because it felt so senseless.”

“I was up at 5 in the morning and it came up on the American news and I was literally like.”

“‘What the f–k?’ I was literally like, ‘No, this isn’t real.'”

“I couldn’t take it in.”

“I think everybody felt like that.”

He added that he did receive troll comments on X, formerly known as Twitter after he posted his condolences.

“Somebody tweeted to me: ‘You only care because he’s good-looking.'”

“I think, ‘F*ck off. You’re an idiot.'”

“I care about his family … I watched the dad.”

“Heartbreaking.”

“I was quite tearful about it.”

“I really felt very sad.”
