Frankie Muniz has received an outpouring of support after opening up about his mental health struggles just days into filming the Malcolm in the Middle reboot.
The 39-year-old actor took to social media to admit he was in a tough place mentally and emotionally.
He wrote on X, “If I’m being 100% honest… Mentally/emotionally, I may be at a new low.”
“Just wanted to say it out loud.”

Muniz’s honest post came just over a week after filming began on April 13 for the highly anticipated revival of the hit 20th Century Fox (now Studios) sitcom.
While he previously expressed excitement about returning to the beloved series, fans were quick to reassure him that his well-being should come first.
“If you want to drop out of playing Malcolm, drop out,” one fan commented. “You don’t owe any person, any ‘fan’ or studio. You decide how to live your life.”
Another one chimed in, “When I’m not feeling great, I watch Malcolm in the Middle and it makes me feel better.”
Messages of encouragement also poured in from the longtime viewers.
“You’re a legend, head up Malcolm!” one posted.
A different user added, “Sending prayers and love. It’ll be alright, buddy. Keep your chin up.”
Another fan praised Muniz’s honesty, saying: “That’s dope you’d even post this. A lot of us can relate. Oddly it’s comforting knowing that we’re not alone in this feeling. Stay strong.”

The actor first rose to fame as the gifted, sarcastic middle child in Malcolm in the Middle, which ran for seven seasons between 2000 and 2006.
In December, Disney+ confirmed a reboot was in the works, with Muniz returning alongside Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as his on-screen parents, Hal and Lois.
The upcoming series will follow Malcolm in adulthood, now a father himself, who finds his family’s chaos pulling him back in during a reunion for Hal and Lois’s 40th wedding anniversary.
Ahead of filming, Muniz shared that he had started rewatching the original series.
He posted last month, “Just started watching Malcolm in the Middle episode 1.”
“Got 151 to catch up on before we start filming again in a few days!!!”
“Can’t wait to get back together with my old family.”
