Netflix’s latest Christmas thriller is being hailed by viewers as the best movie they’ve watched in 2024, which makes it a must-see addition to your holiday watchlist.
Carry-On, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, stars Taron Egerton as Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent caught in a life-threatening situation on Christmas Eve.
The story takes a dramatic turn when a mysterious traveller, played by Jason Bateman, forces Ethan to let a dangerous package through security by threatening his family, leading to a tense game of cat-and-mouse in the airport.

Since its premiere on December 13, 2024, Carry-On has broken Netflix viewership records.
The film pulled in 42 million views in its first week, making it Netflix’s biggest opening of the year and placing it in the top 10 across 93 countries.
Fans have been comparing it to Die Hard, arguing that it’s not a Christmas movie—just a movie that happens to take place during Christmas.
A viewer posted on X, “#CarryOn is a fantastic Christmas movie that brought back Die Hard 2 vibes! Taron Egerton shines as an action hero, and I hope this isn’t the last we see of this character. A fantastic performance in a fantastic film!.”
Another one added, “Edge of the seat thriller! One bag of popcorn is not enough. Airports, behind the security details are so interesting to watch.”
“Reminds me of the movie Speed(Keanu Reeves) guess 1998. Not exact, similar thrill. Saturday night was worth it!”
A third one chimed in, “‘#CarryOn (Netflix) is fairly silly in a dozen ways, but it is a solidly entertaining popcorn-chomper with a great cast that delivers a good time, and sometimes that’s all you want.”
Egerton has previously shared that he’d be open to returning for the right sequel.
In a conversation with Digital Spy, he told, “It’s kind of like an extraordinary set of circumstances, so I think it would need a really innovative, creative idea to feel like a worthy idea for a sequel.”
He also noted that sequels can work well in certain franchises, pointing to the enduring appeal of Die Hard.
He added that sequels “work for Die Hard, so who knows?”
Carry-On is currently streaming on Netflix.
