Where exactly these new films will fit within the Star Wars timeline remains unclear.
Initial reports from Deadline hinted that the trilogy might be a continuation of the iconic “Skywalker Saga,” which began in 1977 and last appeared on screen in 2019 with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
However, The Hollywood Reporter has since noted that sources indicate the trilogy will introduce new characters and explore a fresh narrative within the Star Wars universe.
If the latter is accurate, Kinberg’s films could abandon the Skywalker storyline altogether, carving out a new legacy and setting it in a galaxy far, far away.
Adding to the mystery, Disney has yet to confirm if the unnamed movies slated for 2026 and 2027 include any of the new trilogy entries.
The only officially confirmed film on Disney’s release schedule is The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to premiere on May 22, 2026.
This movie will bring Star Wars back to theatres for the first time in nearly seven years.
For now, the countdown continues, and with The Mandalorian & Grogu leading the charge in 2026, it seems Lucasfilm is laying the groundwork for a broader Star Wars theatrical renaissance.
