Quentin Tarantino refuses to give his mother a single penny from his $120M fortune over ‘petty’ remark

Quentin Tarantino has clarified that his mother, Connie Zastoupil, will not benefit from his Hollywood success.

Despite his massive success with films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, he has not financially supported his mother due to a harsh comment she made when he was a child.

During an appearance on The Moment with Brian Koppelman podcast, Tarantino, whose net worth is estimated at $120 million, opened up about a childhood promise that he has kept to this day.

He explained that while he knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue writing, he struggled in school, which frustrated his mother.

One day, during a heated moment, Zastoupil mocked his ambitions, saying, “This little writing career? That (expletive) is (expletive) over,” with finger quotes to emphasize her point.

Although she was referring to him writing during class when he should have been focused on schoolwork, her words left a visceral impact on him.

Tarantino vividly recalled his internal reaction at the time.

He shared on the podcast, “I was in my head, and I go, ‘Okay, lady, when I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success.”

“There will be no house for you. No vacation. No Elvis Cadillac. You get nothing because you said that.’” 

The acclaimed director, now 58, was not joking.

He confirmed that while he once helped his mother out of a financial situation with the IRS, that was the extent of his generosity.

“I helped her out of a jam with the IRS, but no house, no Cadillac,” Tarantino said.

Tarantino further shared that parents should be aware of how their words can deeply affect their children.

He added, “There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children.”

“Remember: There are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them.”

In response to her son’s comments, Zastoupil told USA TODAY that she supports and loves her son, despite the viral attention surrounding his remarks.

“Regarding my son Quentin – I support him, I’m proud of him, and love him and his growing new family,” she said.

She also noted that podcast comments can “spin and go viral without full context” and declined to engage in the ongoing media frenzy.
