Even Stevens star Christy Carlson Romano gives update after being ‘shot in the face’ on day out

"I saw my life flash before my eyes."

Former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano is recovering after a frightening accident during her husband’s birthday celebration.

The Even Stevens alum, 40, revealed on Instagram that she is recovering after being shot in the face while clay pigeon shooting with her husband, producer Brendan Rooney.

Romano explained that while celebrating Rooney’s birthday, another group at the shooting range fired in the wrong direction, striking her.

“Yesterday was my husband’s birthday, and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us, and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,” she wrote on Saturday.

Rooney immediately rushed her to the hospital, where doctors determined she had been hit in five places, with one shot landing dangerously close to her right eye.

She shared, “A fragment got lodged behind my eye, and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”

Alongside her post, Romano included a video showing her visible injuries. Despite the frightening experience, she expressed gratitude for her survival.

She wrote, “With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive.”

“I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much.”

“I saw my life flash before my eyes, and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”

Romano gained fame playing Ren Stevens on Even Stevens from 2000 to 2003, starring alongside Shia LaBeouf.

She also voiced the titular character in Kim Possible. Most recently, she competed on season 3 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, which challenges celebrities with grueling physical and mental trials under the guidance of ex-Special Forces operatives.

Romano made it to the penultimate episode before her elimination.

Following her exit, she reflected on her performance, telling Entertainment Weekly she was proud to have made it further than some elite athletes.

She said, “I would think that nobody could have thought that me and Kyla Pratt would’ve made it as far as we did. We surpassed Olympic medalists, and I think that’s insane to think about.”
