Former One Direction star Liam Payne dead at 31 after ‘falling from building in Buenos Aires’

Liam Payne, former star of the hit UK pop band One Direction, has died at the age of 31 after falling from a “building in Buenos Aires”, as per Sky News.

The former One Direction star died outside of a hotel in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires, as confirmed by its local media and shared by emergency services.

Reports state the singer fell from the third floor of the Buenos Aires building.

Payne’s career since parting ways with One Direction in 2015, after the band took an indefinite hiatus, has been on focusing as a solo artist in the music industry.

His fame in the world of music began when he auditioned on X Factor in 2010, in which he was eventually paired up with his former bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.

As shared by reports, the “Teardrops” singer fell into a courtyard at a Buenos Aires hotel, as confirmed by a local official who spoke to a local TV network.

He was found dead at the CasaSur Hotel in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Palermo, which was confirmed by the head of the state emergency medical system Alberto Crescenti.

Crescenti added that authorities were investigating the circumstances of Payne’s death and conducting an autopsy.

Just an hour before his death, Payne posted to his fans on Snapchat.

While speaking to his followers about what he had planned for the day in Argentina, Payne said: “Today, we ride. We’re going to ride some horses.”

“Think I’m going to play polo again, which is going to put me out of action for about six weeks.”

“It’s so hard to do, number one, my back and my neck from swinging that hammer around… or mallet, I think it’s called if you’re in the know,” he added.

“It hurts a lot, it’s very tough to do.”

Payne was visiting the area to attend the concert of his former One Direction bandmate and friend Niall Horan’s concert, according to reports by Argentinian reporters.

Payne was spotted attending one of Horan’s concerts earlier this month.

As per a Buenos Aires official, “reports of [an] aggressive man” at the hotel being made have been shared.

Pablo Policicchio, spokesperson for the security ministry of Buenos Aires, said local police had been directed to the hotel in response to an emergency call about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Additional details suggest Payne “jumped” from his balcony, however, it’s unclear if he fell by accident or deliberately threw himself off of it.

Payne leaves behind his six-year-old son, Bear, with Cheryl Tweedy.
