Game of Thrones and Skins star reveals she was sectioned after being ‘lured’ by wellness cult

Game of Thrones actress Hannah Murray has revealed that she was sectioned after being “lured” into what she described as a wellness cult when she was in her mid-20s.

Murray (35) starred as Gilly in Game of Thrones when joining in 2012, was introduced in the hit show’s second season, and later became a main member of the cast.

However, she has since revealed that shortly after production of the show’s seventh season, 2016 and 2017, she was sectioned.

“The Make-Believe”, Murray’s unfinished memoir which is scheduled for a later release, includes the revelation made by the Game of Thrones star.

“The Make-Believe tells a deeply personal story that has lived inside me for many years and which it now feels vital to share,” she said when discussing what she has completed of her memoir so far.

Hutchinson Heinemann, the memoir’s publisher, added: “This is the story of the blurred line between what is real, and what is an illusion.”

“[A story of] what we must accept and what we wish to be true; between solid earth beneath your feet and a world where anything is possible if you only commit.”

“It is about the lure of those that tell us they can save us, and the deceptive structure of organisations that promise us ‘wellness’,” the publisher added alluding to Murray’s experiences with the cult.

“It’s about the acting world, but also about the way all of us act, hiding our vulnerabilities from everyone except the people trained to prey on them.”

Although details on Murray’s life afterwards aren’t fully clear, it has been stated that the memoir will answer all questions in regard to her experience being sections and beyond.

The show’s final season, which was filmed from 2018 to 2019, starred Murray in three episodes.

However, she hasn’t appeared in a big screen project since 2018, only appearing on TV.

Murray first made her name known when playing Cassie in Skins.

She later starred alongside her previous co-star Joe Dempsie again in Game of Thrones, who played Chris Miles in Skins.
