James McAvoy reveals why meeting his celebrity crush Jennifer Aniston ‘wasn’t great’

Renowned Scottish actor James McAvoy revealed that when he was first rising to fame, meeting his celebrity crush wasn’t quite as he thought it’d be.

The 45-year-old actor has starred in many iconic roles, such as Professor X in the X-Men franchise, the thriller films, Split and Glass and his role as Mr Tumnus in Narnia.

McAvoy shared that he initially met the Friends star when he was young after attending a party in Hollywood with Charlies Angels and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu.

“I was at a party when I was really young, I was like 22 in L.A., and I met Lucy Liu. And Lucy Liu was really, really nice to me and she was like, ‘Come meet my friends.’”

The Atonement actor shared that, although she was delightful, meeting Jennifer Aniston “wasn’t great.”

“I did meet her and it wasn’t great. Not because she’s not great.”

McAvoy continued telling the story, sharing how he was the newest guy in town and had yet to get a chance to meet many people.

“I got parked right beside Jennifer Aniston. And just as [Liu] was like, ‘Hey, guys, meet my new friend James,’ instead of saying that, she got pulled aside by a guy she went to high school with.”

“She went away and I was just left standing with all these people going, ‘Hey, what’s up, I’m new in town.’”

Coming across Aniston, his celebrity crush at the time, McAvoy admitted to his embarrassing encounter.

“‘So, you’re Jennifer Aniston and you’re in Friends.’”

Although he probably regretted it at the time as a newcomer to Hollywood, he can now look back and laugh at the once awkward moment.

“It was rough. But she was lovely.”

No longer the newest name in the industry, McAvoy has become a staple in Hollywood, with his next project Speak No Evil which released on the 12th of September.
