Matthew Lillard has confirmed that he will officially be returning to reprise his famous slasher role, Stu Macher, alongside Neve Campbell in Scream 7.
Stu is famously known as one of the franchise’s two original Ghostface killers.
Although Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis died in the final moments of the first movie, fans were never fully convinced that Lillard’s character joined him.
Now, after decades of theories and speculation, Stu is back for more.

Deadline shared the news that Lillard would be returning as the Five Nights at Freddy’s star also took to Instagram to drop a not-so-cryptic post featuring one of his most iconic Scream lines.
“My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me,” Stu Macher said in the 1996 classic while coming to the realisation that his and Billy’s plan wasn’t quite working out the way they’d hoped.
Lillard hand-wrote that very line on a piece of paper in a new video.
This seems to confirm the news that Campbell’s Sidney Prescott may have a lot on her plate in the next instalment of the franchise, which comes to theatres on February 27, 2026.

In response to Lillard’s post, fans were quick to realise exactly what he was implying.
“Stu said he’d bE RIGHT BACK!!!!!!!!” one wrote.
“‘Ya see Sid, everybody dies but us, everybody dies….. but us. We get to carry on and plan the sequel.. Cuz let’s face it baby.. THESE DAYS… YA GOTTA HAVE A SEQUEL!!'” another wrote, quoting a piece of Stu Macher dialogue.
“Our king returns to the screen as he always said he’d be right back!!!”
“if hes lying. ohhh god if hes lying ….. *shakes my fist and scowls*”
“I stg if Stu is back in 7 I’m gonna lose my mind….”
