Peter Dinklage gives surprising reason why he still ‘likes’ Game of Thrones controversial finale

"I like the finale! You don't have to agree with me."

Five years after the controversial finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage continues to defend the show’s ending.

The Emmy-winning actor, who portrayed fan-favourite Tyrion Lannister, recently opened up the series finale which disappointed fans and critics alike.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dinklage revealed why he continues to support the controversial Game of Thrones series finale.

He said, “I like the finale! You don’t have to agree with me.”

“I can’t speak for anybody else’s opinion, and that’s what makes what we do fun because everybody does have a difference of opinion and everybody gets to write about it and chat about it and drink over it and argue about it.”

He also added, “I mean, I think it means you’re doing something right.”

The Game of Thrones finale faced backlash from fans who felt dissatisfied with its handling of key plot points and character arcs.

Daenerys Targaryen’s sudden descent into madness and fiery attack on King’s Landing, followed by her death at Jon Snow’s hands, left fans feeling betrayed.

Bran Stark’s crowning as king and Jon Snow’s exile to the Night’s Watch was also widely criticized by fans, with many questioning the logic and satisfaction of the show’s resolutions.

This is not the first time Dinklage has defended the ending of the show.

In December 2021, Peter Dinklage shared with The New York Times that he was satisfied with the Game of Thrones finale.

He noted that much of the fan backlash came from viewers being upset that the show had ended.

“We were going off the air, and they didn’t know what to do with their Sunday nights anymore. They wanted more, so they backlashed because of that,”

Dinklage’s latest film is the western thriller, The Thicket

The film is set in West Texas and follows a young man named Jack Parker (played by Levon Hawke) whose sister Lula (Esmé Creed-Miles) is kidnapped by a violent killer known as Cut Throat Bill (Juliette Lewis).

Jack enlists the help of a fierce bounty hunter named Reginald Jones (Peter Dinklage) to find his sister.
