Dame Jilly Cooper wrote “Rivals” in 1988, yet its current success is because of the new series on Disney+ of the same name.
The new adaptation of her iconic novel has been praised immensely so far for its first season.
“Puerile, gratuitous and an absolute riot.”
However, Cooper admitted to the BBC in a recent interview that not everything in the series is directly from her novels.

For instance, the opening sex scene was just a bit of “fun.”
“It’s quite naughty too,” Cooper stated about the series.
“There is a lot of sex. In one episode they have every member of the cast coupled and fornicating for the next 20 minutes and all of that.”
Cooper went on to share how she reminisced about the time she wrote the book and re-read it to feel that nostalgia once again.
“The 80s really were the most fun time… Masses of sex, masses of drinking, masses of parties. The younger generation all wish they had been born then.”

The 87-year-old author then went on to share how sexual desire between men and women has dwindled since the 80s.
“Women are stronger and men are weaker, therefore there is not so much sexual desire between them.”
She continued to share how different women and men are now compared to the 80s.
“I think women are much tougher, much stronger and much more forthright. And I think men are much, much less macho. I mean, macho has gone. You are not allowed to be macho.”
“Everybody jogs. They get up in the morning, they jog all around the countryside for hours. They do exercises. That’s what they do now.”
Cooper elaborated by sharing how this newfound love for “jogging” and being proactive is making individuals too busy, and therefore “too tired to have sex”.
“They don’t have sex any more.”
“They are far too tired to have sex now. Jogging is bad for people’s love life.”
“Ruinous,” she jokingly concluded.
