With the horror industry making a huge comeback over the years with the likes of Terrifier, Hereditary, Talk to Me and many more becoming a huge success it had encouraged writers to want to create something a little different.
Some old-time Disney classics have been the recent movies to receive a horror remake including Bambi, Pinocchio, Peter Pan and even Mickey Mouse.
The latest one is none other than Cinderella, although the movie itself is called The Ugly Stepsister which recently just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
As per a review on IMDb, they described it as “a haunting and visceral reimagining of the classic Cinderella story, this time told through the eyes of one of the ‘ugly’ stepsisters.”
According to a report from Variety one very unlucky viewer vomited after watching the movie.
“It was also clear that Sundance still favours the bold and doesn’t shy away from screening films that may illicit strong reactions.”
“During the premiere of the opening Sundance Midnight movie The Ugly Stepsister, a moviegoer leaned over into the aisle and vomited.”
They also added a little insight into the movie calling it “difficult to watch.”
“Emilie Blichfeldt’s body horror film includes several difficult-to-watch scenes of crude cosmetic surgery, including its protagonist eating a tapeworm, sewing in eyelashes and enduring a barbaric rhinoplasty.”
Perhaps viewers of today are just not used to all the grotesque scenes as this is not the first movie to apparently have induced vomiting.
Users online sure have had something to say calling people of today “weak” and to “let the true horror fans decide that!”
The release of Terrifier 3 in October 2024 reportedly left theatres having to warn viewers before entering and to warn staff if they start to feel ill.
One Terrifier fan claimed her Apple watch kept warning her throughout the movie which left her “fighting for her life.”
